Your fast track to doing business with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, China and India.
I was in Malaysia in June ‘05 and participated as a panel member and guest speaker at the OIC Trade Forum held at the Putrajaya International Convention Center. I was there at the personal invitation of Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz, the Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia. I presented a paper at the forum entitled Market Entry Tools: A New Spin on Some Old Ideas. During my extended stay in Malaysia I renewed and developed new strategic contacts and business relationships.
Malaysia is uniquely positioned as a regional hub to offer strong and attractive benefits to grow your business and to penetrate the regional Asian markets. Malaysia is one of the fastest growing counties in the ASEAN Group and is one of ASEAN’s largest and most modern economies.
As a member ASEAN country, Malaysia provides an excellent ‘gateway’ into the broader Association of Southeast Asian Nations which includes Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, and Brunei. The ASEAN regional grouping has a total of more than 500 million people. Malaysia also sits at the crossroads of Asia’s largest markets, China and India. China alone has over a billion consumers.
Malaysia boasts a young, educated and productive English speaking workforce. About 70% of the nation’s population of almost 24 million is below the age of 35. Malaysia’s literacy rates are high at 93% and school leavers entering the job market have at least 11 years of basic education.
English is widely used in Malaysia, especially in business, thus facilitating your communication with local personnel as well as everyday communication. The country’s legal and accounting practices derived from the British system are acceptable to most international companies.
English is also widely spoken across all major ethnic groups. The major ethnic groups are : Bumiputera (indigenous Malaysians) making up 65% of the population; Chinese accounting for 26% of the population, Indian 8% and others 1%.
Malaysia’s ethnic and cultural diversity makes it easy for Western companies and individual entrepreneurs to establish relationships and network with Malaysian companies and entrepreneurs experienced with doing business in China and India. 26% of the Malaysian population is ethnic Chinese and have a wide range of business operations in China.
